Dr Bugra Alkan is a Senior Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in the School of Computer Science and Digital Technologies, College of Technology and Environment, at London South Bank University. He received his PhD in Engineering from WMG, University of Warwick, specialising in cyber-physical industrial automation, and previously held a postdoctoral appointment in Computer Science at the University of Bristol. His research spans smart manufacturing, industrial artificial intelligence, industrial robotics, and human-robot collaboration, with complementary expertise in data-driven decision making, cyber-physical systems, and digital twins. He has led and collaborated on projects funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Innovate UK, the Royal Society, EU Horizon, and industrial partners, serving as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator. He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, holds an h-index of 16 and an i10-index of 22, and is a regular reviewer for leading venues. His work has received multiple Best Paper Awards, including recognition at the CIRP Conference on Assembly Technologies and Systems in Gothenburg, Sweden. He teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, leads modules in artificial intelligence and industrial cyber-physical systems, is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and serves as an Associate Editor for Heliyon and Industrial Robot.
